年終八強爭霸的戰事告一段落，中國大陸最終沒能締造雙贏局面，世界排名第一的Serena Williams，2-6、6-3、6-0擊敗李娜，取得年終賽二連霸。
單打決賽登場前，雙打冠軍戰由謝淑薇與彭帥拿下冠軍，跨國組合雙雙寫下台灣與中國大陸的歷史紀錄，已經締造亞洲選手於年終賽單打最佳成績的李娜，也備受期待能再創驚奇。
結果Williams依舊是一道難以跨越的高牆，被李娜擒下第一盤後，在第二盤中段開始竟被 Williams連搶9局成功反敗為勝，首度在WTA年終賽衛冕。
這是 Williams於WTA年終賽第四冠，也是今年賽季第11座單打冠軍，82場比賽中她贏了78場，這一季勝率高達九成五。
但Williams認為，比起這些成績，她比較想多贏一座大滿貫，「當然，可以拿到年終賽冠軍我很高興，我不能說這是最棒的一季，我不能說這不是最好的，我也不知道如何解釋。」
這場冠軍戰也締造另一個紀錄，第一次由兩位超過30歲的選手來對決，Williams已經32歲，而李娜是31歲，為43年來首次出現的情況。
WTA年終賽也是最後一年在伊斯坦堡舉行，明年起將移師新加坡。
